Having to soon make a lesson plan for my class from using either blogs or wiki's I have to decide what would be the best choice for my students. I am leaning more to using the wiki example for my lesson. Arranging the topics like our own class ITS wiki and having students post information in asigned groups of 4-5 for a certain weekly topic seems like a more efficient and critical thinking learning environment for my students. It would be more more managable for me as a teacher to monitor and is more defined with assignment requirements for my students to follow. They would be able to access the site from either home or during their study hall so each student would be able to complete and access to the page. With blogs I would be more cautious with what they are writing about each week and managing 150 students would be almost impossible and very time consuming.
Am I on the right track or should I look more into blogs?

I am also leaning toward wikis for the same reasons. If each student has their own blog it will be more time consuming for me to follow each one and see that they are using it correctly, understanding the concepts and completing the assignment. I also think that we can do wikis through the school site, which will free me from as much worry about getting into the public domain and trying to protect the students! I don't know that for sure, but I will be checking into it! Hope your lesson planning goes well! I vote for wikis for our sanity...or what is left of it :)! Keep smiling!
ReplyDeleteI am also leaning towards a wiki. With my own blog, I am having trouble thinking of things to talk about. But with the wiki, we have a prescribed topic and we have learned a lot about those things. I think that would be better for students as well because they would be more likely to participate if they have things to say.
