Digital Video
Now in class this we are doing digital video recording and editing for our advocacy groups. I have used digital recording and editing with my classes last semester for use with one of my practicum lessons. Students recorded a 30 second PSA for a real life contest Drive Smart Virginia with awards given for the best PSA chosen by judges. The contest was designed for creating a original, accurate, and interesting PSA that adequately addresses teenage driving issues and laws for students currently taking driver education. The students enjoyed producing and editing the PSA's with the Flip Video recorders I provided. The issue at our school is they are not allowed to edit the material on the school computers. A teacher is only allowed to do this and the program is only loaded on certain computers in the school for use. This required a large amount of time for me to edit and load the videos but the final products created was worth the time. People it seems love to view others videos. Does anyone else have the issue of the programs for editing being on certain computers at their school and are students allowed to use it at all?

I will have to check to see if the program for editing is on all of the computers or not. I know that it is not automatically put on any of the Cows (Computers on Wheels) because I had to have it loaded on my laptop when I taped my student teacher and wanted to view it. Before I do an activity with my students I will need to have the FlipVideo Software put on all of the computers that I will be using. Our computers have a block so that we can't even view the videos that we have recorded. To be able to use technology in our school you have to jump through hoops to get what you need on the computers. I guess we all have our issues with using technology in our classrooms.
ReplyDeleteUp until last year I had used my own personal editing software when making videos with the class. It was fun for them, but as you said, it was time intensive for me. So, last year when I had the student do video essays we used the digital cam cords that the school has and then we loaded the movies into the computers here. I had the students use microsoft moviemaker. So, they did the editing and WHEW, what a weight off of my shoulders.
