Blogging with Students in Classroom

After doing the book readings and looking at some comments it does seem students would be interested in, able, and willing to blog as part of the classroom curriculum. They want to share their ideas and experiences to others but as the classroom teacher you would have to make sure the blogging is acceptable and safe. This would require a good amount of prior approval, planning, and testing from the teacher so all does go as planned out. With the economy and cut backs this would be a great way for students to post work, test answers, etc. so we could go to a paperless style of communicating and displaying classroom information which would save money. The positives of doing Web Blogs are many such as it expands the walls of the classroom,is a democratic tool that supports different learning styles, and can enhance the development of expertise in a particular subject. The question I have now is why has this style of teaching and communicating not made more strides into more classrooms?

  1. You have lots of good thoughts. But the one area that concerns me the most, and that I think is the reason that it hasn't been used more in the classroom is the responsbility to make sure that students use this resource in a responsible and safe manner. I am looking forward to learning how to keep my kdissafe!

  2. Nice choice for page layout...LOL Great minds design alike.

You brought up a very good point...SAFETY! I will be interested to learn how to plan, protect and monitor students. It seems like an overwhelming task. Maybe that's why it isn't used more in the classroom.

  3. I agree, I think SAFETY is a HUGE concern! I also think "fear" and lack of knowledge has something to do with the lack of use. However, based on the Richardson readings, there is great value in exploring the options. I'm interested to see where this semester leads us. As stated on a fellow ITSer's blog, I am interested to find out how many of our students already have experience with blogs.-???-

  4. Good thoughts about a "paperless" system. Our principal was just talking about ways to save paper in our daily activities with the budget crunch setting in. Also there are a lot of opportunities for students & teachers to share ideas - that your comments suggest could work well today.....
